Brian A. Cardoza is a trial lawyer who serves as Lead Claims Litigation Counsel for the Edison Law Organization. He has extensive litigation experience prosecuting and defending high exposure electrical utility matters, catastrophic personal injury claims (including traumatic brain injuries, burn injuries and wrongful death claims), product liability, structure and wildland fire matters. He serves as lead in-house counsel in numerous wildland fire matters and has personally tried a wildland fire case to verdict. He has also tried complex commercial disputes and successfully achieved a multi-million dollar alter-ego verdict.
Mr. Cardoza has recovered tens of millions for his clients, as well as receiving defense verdicts in many others. He has tried numerous cases to verdict in both California State and Federal courts and has enjoyed multiple "Trial of the Week" designations by the Los Angeles Daily Journal. Prior to Edison, he worked for a national law firm specializing in product liability litigation. At his prior firm he tried as lead counsel several automotive product liability and breach of warranty lawsuits to successful verdict.
He has been described as a "go-to" trial attorney and was unanimously elected to the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), an invitation only organization of national trial attorneys dedicated to defending the American civil justice system and promoting standards of integrity, honor and courtesy in the legal profession. Mr. Cardoza serves on the ABOTA Executive Committee and is President of the California Coast Chapter. He was recently elected to the ABOTA National Board and co-chairs the National Chapter Relations Committee. He also serves as a Director of Cal-ABOTA.
Mr. Cardoza has extensive law and motion experience and has served as lead counsel in numerous appellate actions. His appellate work has resulted in the publishing of several seminal appellate opinions.
The Los Angeles Times Business-to-Business Publication (B2B) awarded Mr. Cardoza with its inaugural In-house Leadership Award for attorneys practicing in large private corporations in excess of 1000 employees. He has also received numerous awards for pro bono service.
He is a sought-after lecturer on topics ranging from wildland fires, fire origin and cause and general trial practice. He has lectured at the Western Energy Institute, California Conference of Arson Investigators, Wildland Fire Conference, AEGIS Claims Conference and Yosemite Environmental Conference. He co-chairs Edison's Trial Program.
